Most tourists to explore the magnificent Amalfi Coast just south of Naples stop at these two large diamonds, Positano and Amalfi and the right of way in around the jewel in the town of Praiano, half way between Positano and Amalfi.
What a mistake! Why not stay in beautiful Praiano as I did? Indeed small, less crowded and feels less touristy than its more famous neighbors.
This September I wanted to make excursions on the trails slope the mountain, between Positano and Amalfi (another story for another time!) He wanted Praiano as a good in between. Three days of stay full of pleasures!
My single room in Hotel Perla on the edge of Praiano opened on a sunny balcony with wonderful views along the coast of the steep mountain dry, brown and green fall to blue sea. Perched on the coast road to Amalfi The hotel is quiet, but just a short walk from the bus stop for the bus to Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi or Salerno.
I enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet on the terrace overlooking the sea and adequate service to the Internet in the lobby. Hotel La Perla, perlahotel.it Phone: 089-874246. Double rooms range 100-150 euros.
Best All a stairway a few feet along the main road from the Hotel Perla Saracen tower leads to a large restaurant on the sea that doubles extensive time during the day.
The Paradies Restaurant is located on a terrace on the rocks near the water when viewed along coast, ships come and see and admire the twinkling lights in the sea as darkness falls. I liked it so much I went twice!
The chowder was full of shrimp, mussels, squid, octopus and clams in a delicious tomato broth. The roasted peppers with olives, capers and black with the olive oil quality were excellent. The outgoing owner gave me good advice on what wine to order by the glass. I spent about 27 euros.
My third day back to many tourist attractions, wandered down the stairs capable of finding a sun bed for a stroll on the sea for a couple of hours and found the owner of the restaurant itself. Within two minutes east along the road of the Amalfi Coast Hotel Perla takes on a small sandy beach. You can also take a water taxi from here to Positano, where you take the boat to Capri or along the coast.
Walk west for about 20 minutes from the beautiful ocean view of the Hotel secondary roads near the houses, gardens, schools, shops and hotels that takes you to the center of Praiano. To go by bus you can catch the local bus less expensive or orange, more expensive, busloads SITA Amalfi Coast.
For bus tickets to the local orange 1 euro, you pay the driver directly. For buses SITA, you buy the first tickets in designated locations such as coffee. Tourist tickets either along the coast are 5 euros for a period of 24 hours.
A driver SITA SITA bus said the aliens will not sell stock to € 1 unless they can prove they are local residents. A small thing, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.
In the downtown Praiano am in the main square, dominated by light, white church of San Gennaro, with its impressive dome of white, blue and yellow and pictures of the tower with a tiled roof yellow and green.
The church interior was a pleasant surprise, a baroque decoration in yellow, green and white. On the site I looked over the sea along the coast of Positano. What a nice view!
I followed the steps below the church on the street too close Historically car for homes, gardens and terraces with tomatoes hung to dry on the beach, a series of terraces on the cliffs overlooking Positano, sun loungers and umbrellas, beach bar and restaurant. The rise of 5-10 minutes, or down stairs is good exercise!
I was in Praiano on Sept. 19, the feast of its saint, San Gennaro, So what better place to dine Trattoria San Gennaro placed just above the main square. In my outdoor table was like a dinner theater.
In the Piazza bands played. The church has been exposed in garlands of white lights. The place was all dressed in the ways of fires large yellow flowers, green and white. The children ran around the square to play with new toys bought in the stands. What a magical show that the sunset pink and orange in the sea!
My linguine allo Scoglio filled with fresh tomatoes, parsley, shrimp and seafood salad and my fertile lettuce, arugula, tomato, fennel, carrots and radicchio were excellent. Trattoria San Gennaro, Via G. Capriglione. Phone: 089-874293.
I would have liked to stay longer in Praiano and hang out for a few carefree days on the beaches and eat more fish and drink white wine. Praiano is a small gem sandwiched between two large diamonds, the most peaceful place perfect base for exploring the busiest, the most famous town of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.
